Viagra will no longer be the medication only men can turn to in case of lower sexual desire. Now women can enjoy it as well, as the latest medication on the market is called “female Viagra”. And best of it all, is that it got the approval of the US Food and Drug Association.
The medication is manufactured by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, and it’s called Flibanserin, or brand name Addyi. Officially, flibanserin is used to treat HSDD or hypoactive sexual desire disorder.
It’s not entirely clear why HSDD happens in women, but many experts think that the low sexual desire in women is mainly a result of stress and psychological factors, such as low self-esteem, extreme fatigue and lifestyle habits.
How exactly does the female Viagra work isn’t clear yet, but Sprout Pharmaceuticals claim that the medicine corrects the imbalance in the brain chemicals that regulate the sexual desire in women.
Women no longer have to feel bad about having a low sexual desire. With the FDA approving this medicine, women can now turn to a safe treatment for this issue. However, the medicine doesn’t just come in your hands; it can be obtained only with a prescription from a certified medical person. This is partly because flibanserin can cause some severe side effects if not taken properly, such as severe nausea, insomnia, sleepiness, dry mouth and dizziness. Also, if taken with alcohol, the drug can cause even worse side effects, such as concussion and severe hypotension.
Flibanserin as such, made a lot of noise among the medical elite before getting the approval from the FDA. Some of the experts claimed that the drug is too dangerous for women and it needs to undergo further testing and improvements. Others said that flibanserin made it this far thanks to Sprout Pharmaceuticals great marketing campaigns. However, despite all the criticism, the drug got the FDA’s approval, and it’s now widely available to all women with medical insurance and a prescription from a certified doctor.
